It has been an eventful & challenging first half of 2019. We have delivered on many of our goals, not least on how we adapt to a changing global environment. Consequently, we have succeeded in critical value creation for our business.
Charles Darwin said: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”
To succeed in business, you need to respond to change fast. Contrary to what many people believe, innovation is not about technology alone. Innovation is about new ways of doing things and working smarter.
“The future of humanity and nature is at stake. We are committed to creating global solutions that will secure a sustainable livelihood for coming generations”
Elisabeth Grieg, Per Grieg jr, Elna-Kathrine Grieg, Camilla Grieg.
Using the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) as our framework, we have revised our business strategies to meet the future as a more resilient, innovative and collaborative group.
By combining education and lifelong learning with equal opportunities and new ways of working, we believe we will unlock new innovative solutions that will create shared value for our planet, society and the Grieg Group.
We have set our purpose.
We will restore our oceans
However, we cannot do this alone. Together we will strive to create new, bold and profitable solutions, to be an inspiration for other companies and organizations and last, but not least we shall motivate partners, people and society to join our purpose.
Earlier this month, the world’s largest shipping conference, was held here in Oslo, with more than 30.000 participants from all over the world. This year the conference was dedicated towards innovation and new technology in a sustainable matter. I was happy to talk about the Zero Emission Energy Distribution at Sea project (ZEEDS). This is just one of the projects that show that the Grieg Group is responsive to change.
Innovation is also about changing the way we work. This year we have appointed two new CEOs in the Grieg Group. Sirine Fodstad is our new CEO of Grieg Maturitas and Matt Duke takes over as CEO in Grieg Star. We are happy to welcome them in their new positions and look forward to working together to further develop the Grieg Group for the future.
Ramez Naam, Adjunct Professor at Singularity University, USA says that the best way to disrupt often lies in moving your business to an adjacent sector. In other words, broaden our horizon.
Thus, it is exciting to see how many of our companies within the Grieg Group have grown closer together the last years. Cooperation, collaboration and interaction are all important to see the possibilities. You never know where the next innovation will come from. We may find it in the area between our existing companies.
On behalf of the Board of Grieg Maturitas we wish you all a very nice summer.
All the best,
Chair of Grieg Maturitas
